LESER GmbH developed the 1560 EARTH series back in 2012. A world premiere, as LESER was the first company in the industry worldwide to launch packaging made of bioplastics. Since then, the indispensable boxes made of the renewable, vegetable raw material have been part of our standard range. Because the organic boxes are enjoying increasing popularity!

How much organic is there in bioplastics?

Some might say that we are living in times of great rethinking. Topics such as sustainability, responsible action and the economical use of natural resources are becoming increasingly important. And with that, thinking about sustainable product packaging is also moving more and more into the central consciousness of consumers. Wherever you look - examples of this can be found everywhere in daily life. The contemporary packaging ranges from organic carrier bags of the well-known supermarket chains to packaging made of algae – the assortment seems almost endless. Of course, we also agree with this awareness! Reason enough, therefore, to also develop plastic boxes in environmentally friendly variants. This ultimately resulted in the EARTH series of boxes made of bioplastics. Successful since the development and market launch in 2012!

And how much organic is there really in it?

100 percent! This is because the body of our products in the EARTH series is made of bioplastics. Bioplastics are plastics that are produced on the basis of renewable raw materials. In the case of the EARTH series, this is the bioplastic PLA (polyactide), which is obtained from sugar in a multi-stage synthesis. Due to its physical and mechanical properties, it is a real alternative to petroleum-based plastics!

Advantages of boxes made from bioplastics

While bioplastics can be processed and used exactly like conventional plastics, they have a much more positive balance. They are biodegradable and break down into naturally occurring and completely non-toxic starting products. Microorganisms such as fungi, bacteria and enzymes ensure that only water, carbon dioxide and biomass remain, which are further utilised by nature. In this way, nature is ultimately allowed to take its course. The packaging made of bioplastics is compostable, can alternatively be processed into biogas in a biogas plant or simply be used for CO₂-neutral energy generation through thermal recycling.
