Cardboard boxes with recycled content

About half of the paper consumed in Germany comes from recycled fibres, which are recovered from waste paper. In our cardboard box production, for example, we work with cardboard that consists of up to 100 % secondary fibres (recycled papers). An overview of the materials used in cardboard packaging at LESER shows the following:

• Cardboard: The solid cardboard that serves as the body of the packaging consists of up to 100 % recycled fibres and is also recyclable. Alternatively, corrugated cardboard can also be used. Both materials can also be processed in FSC^®-certified versions.
• Paper: The paper used to cover the packaging is optionally FSC^®-certified, REACH-compliant, 100% recyclable and biodegradable. Alternatives such as grass paper or stone paper are also used.
• Glue: The glue used to attach the components is a biodegradable natural product made from the main ingredients water & glutin.
• Inks: The majority of the printing inks used to finish our packaging are water-based.
• Inserts: As an alternative to the classic thermoformed insert, a range of sustainable insert materials are also possible.
• FSC^® certification: Since the certification of our company, we are able to produce individual cardboard boxes according to your ideas also in FSC^® materials. You can find out more about FSC^® and other labels here: Labels.

100% recycling packaging series

However, in addition to the recycled materials that we generally use in our carton production in the south of Germany, we now also have a packaging series in our range whose components are made from 100% recycled materials:

SizzlePak – Insert material

The SizzlePak insert material can be a substitute for classic inserts, especially for large-volume and heavy goods. The environmentally friendly material is basically recycled kraft paper cut into strips and is ideal as a filling material for large cardboard boxes due to its shock-absorbing effect. SizzlePak is:

• 100 % recyclable
• antistatic
• dust-free
• Not suitable for small products

Packaging made from recycled plastic

This idea also led to the development of the 1700 FUTURA packaging series, whose body is made of 100 % recycled plastic. Due to the purity of the material, sprues or cast-offs from our injection moulding do not have to be disposed of and can be returned to the packaging production cycle. Thermoformed inserts made from rPET: SeaFlock

In addition to complete packaging made from recycled plastics, there are also individual components, such as packaging inserts made from recycled materials. Thermoformed inserts made of rPET, for example, are obtained directly from the recycling of PET bottles and are therefore also made of mono-material. Due to the purity of the starting material, however, the inserts can also be recycled again, which considerably extends the life cycle of the material. Important properties of the sustainable thermoformed inserts:

• crystal clear and in flocked form
• Flexible colours and sizes
• various level depths possible
• suitable for almost any product

Packaging with recycled components

The 5520 STRAIGHT packaging series was also created with this in mind. It consists of high-quality covered cases with jewellery-related inserts and silk lid cushions. The cover material and the silk were designed from 100% recycled material. Recycled components:
